Axiles Bionics, a spin-off of the Vrije Universiteit Brussel (VUB), has been selected as one of the flagships of the federal campaign ‘Belgium. Open for Business’. Organised by the Chancellery of the Prime Minister Bart De Wever, the campaign welcomes a delegation of leading Japanese journalists to Belgium from 25 to 29 August. Its aim is to highlight the Belgian Health and Biotech Valley on the international stage.
Axiles Bionics develops intelligent ankle-foot prostheses that combine robotics, artificial intelligence and human biomechanics. The technology is the result of years of interdisciplinary research at the VUB’s Brubotics research centre, led by Professor Bram Vanderborght. As president of Brubotics, Vanderborght plays a key role in translating academic knowledge into societal applications and has been instrumental in the creation of several spin-offs.
