Having ideas to better the world? We need you!

Studying at the VUB (fortunately) does not only mean trying to memorise enormous amounts of material in the shortest possible time. You are also expected to put your knowledge into practice and roll up your sleeves. The interdisciplinary subject Reasonably Opinionated (Redelijk Eigenzinnig) teaches you to cooperate, be creative and engage yourself. Because the world needs you!

Redelijk Eigenzinnig is an innovative educational project in which VUB collaborates with external non-profit organisations, and is entirely driven by the participating students. Every year the main theme changes. This year, the students worked on the theme of poverty and learned to cooperate with organisations such as Samu Social. But how does it all work?

You, the students, are divided into groups and assigned an organisation with a contact person. In consultation with the organisation, you then set up a project that must contribute to the objectives of the non-profit organisation in question. You are very free in choosing how you shape your project:  it can be an informative paper, but also a physical event or a lecture!

In concrete terms, depending on your position within your group, you will earn 3 to 6 credits. But above all, it means that you will be making a major contribution to an important social issue. Are there already some creative ideas bubbling up in your head? Then continue your brainstorming sessions together with your fellow students in the next academic year!

*As an Urban Engaged University, we call upon our VUB community to help build a better world through social engagement. On the "The World Needs You" platform, the VUB collects socially meaningful projects on which students, staff, alumni and sympathisers can collaborate. These projects do not represent the university. The initiatives and communication are the responsibility of the project organisers and do not represent the university's position.
