Become the voice of your generation with the Unthinkable Experiment

The rapidly changing structures of our society are almost impossible to keep up with. After the corona year in which the world stood still, everyone is left somewhat confused. What to do next? What to do next? Living together has taken on a different meaning, our thinking is different and we all long for positive developments for the future. And who better than the youth, also known as the leaders of tomorrow, to start reflecting on that future?

With the Unthinkable Experiment, artist Koen Vanmechelen, ULB and VUB are joining forces. In phase one of the experiment, about thirty young people between 17 and 27 are invited to the beautiful domain of LABIOMISTA in Genk for a three-day stay. In three knowledge containers, or beautifully decorated works of art, the young people work in teams on their ideas, questions and reflections on freedom and the future. "Thinking outside the box while being in the box," says artist Koen Vanmechelen. The ultimate goal is to inspire each other, gain new insights and knowledge that we can take with us into the future and thus strive for change, improvement and growth.

With the ideas that come out of the three days, we build together a knowledge library that brings us one step closer to answers to the questions that the young generations are looking for about their future. In a later phase of the experiment, a transdisciplinary team of academics will continue to work with the insights gleaned during the three-day event in July. Finally, in September and October, the project will be presented to the general public in Genk and on the VUB campus in Etterbeek.

Do you want to participate in this super interesting experiment and reflect on your future together with other young people in a unique setting? Then take a look at the website, surprise us in your application with your motivation and maybe we will see you soon in the beautiful nature of LABIOMISTA!
