The Brussels Diplomatic Academy (BDA) and Handicap International are organizing a free screening of the award-winning documentary 'For Sama'. The film shows the devastating impact of wars on innocent civilians.
Bombing and shelling of towns, cities and other areas where civilian life has become a harrowing reality of modern conflict, inflicting untold suffering upon innocent civilians. As conflicts persist and intensify around the globe, the devastating impact of explosive weapons on civilian populations cannot be overstated. From densely packed urban neighbourhoods to bustling marketplaces, schools, and hospitals, no corner of civilian life remains untouched by this indiscriminate violence.
In July the BDA organized a conference about the environmental impact of demining, at which land affected countries and those involved with demining discussed this vastly under reported phenomenon.
This screening sheds light on the profound human cost and need for meaningful action to end the horrors inflicted upon innocent lives by explosive weapons.
Handicap International has been working towards strengthening the protection of civilians and essential civilian infrastructure in conflicts. With the For Sama documentary, it wants to show the reality captured while the Syrian town of Aleppo was bombed and how it impacted thousands of civilians, particularly Waad and Hamza.
The screening will be followed by a discussion with Hamza al-Kateab (Syrian doctor and human rights activist) and Alma Taslidžan (Disarmament and Protection of Civilians Advocacy Manager at Handicap International - Humanity & Inclusion)
