Abstract

Markus Kienscherf will explore the role of surveillance in reproducing capitalist social relations. Surveillance has been, and continues to be, central to (1) the appropriation of surplus value; (2) the social reproduction of labor power; and (3), more recently, also the management of consumption. Drawing on the Marxian critique of political economy and feminist social reproduction theory, Markus Kienscherf will show how rationalities and practices of surveillance have been deployed across the spheres of production, reproduction, and circulation in order to help manage some of the contradictions of capitalist accumulation.
