About the researcher

Aäron Rase is a PhD astrophysicist at the VUB. In his PhD research, he focused in particular on gravitational waves. Research into this field offers us a unique insight into the universe shortly after the Big Bang. This field of research is currently experiencing a scientific boom, partly thanks to the development of the new Einstein Telescope (ET): a next-generation gravitational wave detector that will soon be built at the tri-border area of Belgium, the Netherlands and Germany.

About the movie

In Interstellar (2014), we follow a group of astronauts who travel through a wormhole in search of new, habitable worlds for humanity. The film combines breathtaking imagery and the latest scientific insights with a compelling story. Directed by Christopher Nolan, Interstellar is famous for its realistic portrayal of space and black holes, based on current theories of physics. For the scientific basis of the film, Christopher Nolan sought advice from the american astrophysicist Kip Thorne.
