Delegates to the United Nations for one weekend

Since its founding in 2002, VUBMUN has sought to challenge students - tomorrow’s leaders - to expand their global awareness, discover new experiences, become masters in the art of diplomacy and have the time of their lives.

In November 2016, after a month filled with intensive trainings, the new VUBMUN team went to Oxford to participate in their first MUN. A MUN or Model United Nations is an extra-curricular activity in which students typically roleplay delegates to the United Nations and simulate UN committees.

During the conference in Oxford nine of the student represented the Federal Republic of Germany in various committees of the United Nations, and one represented Edward Carson in a historical crisis simulation.

The new team performed extraordinarily well and gave it their very best. As a bonus, the team was rewarded for its diplomatic skills and efforts through awards in the following committees; United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP), Commission for Science and Technology Development (CSTD) and United Nations Human Rights Council (UNHRC), and through honourable mentions in the Disarmament and International Security committee (DISEC/ First room of the General Assembly) and in the Crisis committee.

Statebuilding in post-Da'esh times

From 1st to the 4th of December, the next MUN takes place in Brussels. In this conference the VUB students will all be members of the United Nations Security Council and discuss statebuilding in post-Da'esh times. This is an MUN that is organized as a course for master students in Law of KULeuven, UGent, UAntwerpen, and VUB.
