This year’s curator Sachli Gholamalizad (°1982) is a young Belgian-Iranian actress and theatre director. As a five year old, she fled Iran for Belgium. The quest to trace her own roots runs as a common thread throughout her work. Her debut play ‘A reason to talk’ (2014) was an international success, ‘Not My Paradise’ (2016) promises to be one of the highlights of the cultural autumn. Find out her rendition of the BANG! festival programme!
Multidisciplinary and fancy venues
The main drawing card of BANG! is its variety. The VUB culture team always works out an original set of activities with their curator. Naturally, there will be performance and podium arts. But also music, expo, film and video feature in the festival programme. There is even ping-pong for peace, and a musical bingo night.
All venues for this year’s edition lie in the vibrant heart of Brussels: Beursschouwburg is well known for its socially relevant and activist stage for young artists, tracking the city’s pulse. De Markten is a vibrant community house, Muntpunt a spacious modern library and information centre and Globe Aroma an open shelter for artists from all over the world. All venues can easily be reached by metro Saint-Catherine or Premetro La Bourse.
Opening Night
On October 6th the Dutch-Iranian singer Sevdaliza will headline the Opening Night in the silver room of Beursschouwburg. After her show you will enjoy the Beurskaffee as one of the finest discoveries downtown.
Discovery is the main attraction of the BANG! festival. Trust the reputed quality label of VUB’s culture team and allow the programme to lead you into the unknown. Adventurers of VUB, explore beyond your usual frontiers! Accept the hand of this mysterious lady and let yourself be seduced by our beautiful city.
