As part of our 50th anniversary, we knocked on the door of some VUB professors and asked them to take a look at their old photo archive and give us a photo from their student days. And admit it... often with hilariously surprising results. Also surprising are their anecdotes, maybe not for VUB-experts, but hilarious the more.

The anecdote of Haezendonck
“Passed summer holidays my kids accompanied me for one day to the VUB. Very happy they screamed: “Woo Hoo, Yummie french fries!”. Together we walked over the green campus, sat down in the ‘Aula Magna’, where their mom occasionally teaches. A day filled with enthusiasm! When I was a kid myself. On a general strike-day, my father brought me to his VUB and it seemed so boring to me.; a schoolboard with complex formulas, a small teaching class with only boys with long haircuts, and no french fries… I never happened again. Fortunately, it was not always better in the past!"
"Starting at the university remains a challenge for a lot of students. One certainty exists: the VUB becomes your fascinating new environment."
