The rectors of 10 European universities are signing an agreement that will make EUTOPIA a true reference point for academic partnership and connection across Europe. It will take place at the academic opening of the VUB at Friday 29th September. We asked secretary-general of EUTOPIA Mattia Bellotti what this means.
What will the 10 rectors of EUTOPIA universities be signing up to?
At the academic opening, the 10 EUTOPIA universities will sign the Statutes of EUTOPIA, a document that in the coming months will establish – after approval by all the relevant authorities of each country – EUTOPIA as an international legal entity under Belgian law.
EU's goal
"This is an ambitious initiative whose objective is to establish alliances between higher institutions from all across Europe."
What is the purpose of EUTOPIA and other European networks for the EU?
EUTOPIA is one of the alliances funded by the European Union under the European Universities initiative. This is an ambitious initiative whose objective is to establish alliances between higher institutions from all across Europe, for the benefit of their students, staff and society. European Universities alliances aim to improve the international competitiveness of higher education institutions in Europe and to promote European values and identity through long-term strategic and sustainable cooperation between partner universities.
How significant is it to have the academic opening in the European Parliament?
The opening of the academic year at the European Parliament will be a significant milestone in the history of EUTOPIA. The signature of the Statutes of the EUTOPIA legal entity at the European Parliament symbolises the unity and shared commitment of our alliance to fostering inclusion, openness, sustainability and excellence in education, research and innovation across our universities.
