On 12 March 2026, the partners of the LASO project will present the results of an innovation trajectory focused on the reliable and responsible implementation of AI in hospitals. The project was funded by Innoviris-FARI and carried out through a collaboration between VUB SMIT Research Group, UZ Brussel, Sagacify, ULB – iCite, and ULB – Centre Perelman.
Artificial intelligence is rapidly becoming part of everyday practice. In hospitals, there is growing ambition to use technology to strengthen patient care, reduce administrative workload and improve operational efficiency. Yet moving from idea to implementation remains challenging. Many initiatives start from technology rather than real organisational needs, causing projects to stall before achieving meaningful impact.
The LASO approach (HospitaL-centric AI Selection and Operationalisation) offers an alternative. Through a structured methodology — from ideation to project concept — LASO supports hospitals in identifying and developing AI applications that are feasible, robust and ethically responsible. Through a series of interactive workshops, AI opportunities were co-created with stakeholders, helping to reduce innovation risks while keeping human needs at the centre.
During this closing event, we will share key insights from the project, present concrete test cases, and showcase the tools and deliverables developed throughout the trajectory.
