Mental fatigue in sports: from the lab to the fencing piste
Chao Bian (Illias) is a PhD candidate at Human Physiology & Sports Physiotherapy Research Group (MFYS), Vrije Universiteit Brussel, awarded a four-year government scholarship from Chinese Scholarship Council. He transitioned to academia from a diverse background as an athlete, coach, and solar energy process engineer. Building upon his Master’s in Physical Education and Training from Shanghai University of Sport, he focuses on mental fatigue, aiming to bridge the gap between lab findings and their application in real-world sports. Currently, he uses elite fencing as a model. In the past four years, he has published eight papers as first author and four textbooks as chapter author. He keeps contributing as reviewer to more than ten Q1 journals. As a speaker, he often presents at ECSS, FISU, and National Convention on Sports Science of China. He will soon join Tsinghua University as a postdoctoral researcher.
