On Wednesday 24 September, the European jury announced that Molenbeek for Brussels 2030 (MB2030) was not selected as European Capital of Culture 2030. Sint-Jans-Molenbeek competed alongside Leuven and Namur for this prestigious title, which was ultimately awarded to Leuven.
The Vrije Universiteit Brussel (VUB), together with ULB, enthusiastically committed to supporting this candidacy. It did so in its role as an Urban Engaged University, putting its knowledge and expertise to work for the super-diverse Living Lab that Brussels represents.
“Although this moment may feel like a pause in our journey, it certainly does not signify an end. What we have built together over the past few years is too strong, too vibrant, and too necessary to stop here. We congratulate the title holder and will contribute with all our generosity to their further development as European Capital of Culture 2030.” (MB2030 organisation)
