Sonja Snacken becomes vice-rector of Internationalisation Policy. She is a professor of Criminology and comes from the Faculty of Law. She enjoys international fame as a researcher in criminology and has gathered multiple international awards and recognition. She performs leading roles in international scientific networks, and has contacts with universities and research centres around the world. Through her scientific experience she has fulfilled leading roles within the Council of Europe in Strasbourg. She has lots of experience in scientific policy, within and outside VUB, and thanks to her expertise works with national and international NGOs and governments.

Jan Danckaert becomes vice-rector of Education and Student Policy. He is a professor of physics and comes from the Faculty of Science and Bio-engineering Sciences. He has many years of management experience within the university. He was head of the training council and the initiator of various educational projects, and is leader of the successful Applied Physics research group.

Karin Vanderkerken becomes vice-rector of Research Policy. She is a professor of oncology and comes from the Faculty of Medicine and Pharmacy. Vanderkerken has wide management experience in the field of research. She is chair of a very successful Hematology and Immunology research group, and has received various international awards.

Hugo Thienpont remains vice-rector of Innovation and Valorisation Policy. He is a professor of photonics and comes from the Faculty of Engineering Science. He created for his policy area a clear mission and vision. Under his impetus, fundraising made great progress, in the professionalisation of the organisation and in the acquisition of donations, chairs and legacies for VUB.
