The aim of "The ABC of 5G. Technical, Business and Regulation Perspectives" is to familiarise business leaders and managers with the realm of 5G technology. This new programme, offered by UGent, Vrije Universiteit Brussel (VUB), and UAntwerpen, immerses students in all aspects of the technology over three days.
5G is being deployed in more and more locations across our country, heralding a new era in telecommunications. For instance, it enables faster online browsing on smartphones. This advancement is beneficial not only for consumers but also opens numerous opportunities for businesses. 5G surpasses its predecessor by offering higher upload and download speeds, and it supports applications involving more devices or significantly lower latencies. As a result, the mobile network is more accessible and less prone to congestion.
To leverage the technology effectively within an organisation, a solid foundational knowledge is essential. UGent, VUB, and UAntwerpen meet this need with a new English-language programme: "The ABC of 5G. Technical, Business and Regulation Perspectives". Participants are immersed in the world of 5G through engaging lectures, case studies, and interactive discussions for three days.
Multidisciplinary
The comprehensive course aims to equip students with the tools to optimally deploy 5G within an organisation. In practice, this involves a multitude of considerations. Implementing this new technology in a company is not just a technical challenge; it also has economic implications and regulatory requirements. By pooling knowledge from three universities into one programme, participants can approach problems and challenges from various perspectives, enabling them to make well-informed decisions for successful 5G integration.
The collaboration of renowned experts in various 5G areas such as radio, core, edge, and cloud computing, regulation, and techno-economic implications has resulted in a comprehensive course," says Prof. Johann Marquez-Barja (UAntwerpen). "This programme gathers all that information into one training session. Participants thus have access to all the necessary data, skills, and knowledge to prepare their organisations for success in the 5G era.
Lifelong Learning
"The ABC of 5G" is the latest offering from the Nova Academy, an initiative by UAntwerpen, UGent, and VUB aimed at bolstering lifelong learning in Flanders under the slogan “Bringing Learning to (your) Life”.
Since 2021, Nova Academy has provided a variety of short and long-term educational opportunities, from lectures and short courses (microcredentials) to postgraduate programmes. The platform aims to continuously engage alumni and citizens in developments within their field and introduce them to new areas, thereby addressing societal needs.
