RE-Place is a scientific project from the Flemish and Brussels government which aims to collect the available expertise on alternative methods to animal testing, also known as “New Approach Methodologies (NAMs)”, in one central database.

Status of the project

The coordinators of the RE-Place project developed an online tool in 2018 to collect specific information on the NAMs that are currently used in Belgium. At present, the RE-Place database contains over 170 methods from different research fields and organisations in Belgium. 30% of the submitted methods is from our colleagues here at the VUB.

Recently, an optimized version of the online tool was launched to collect even more knowledge on NAMs as there is far more expertise out there. Watch our brand-new promotional video and submit your expertise on NAMs now! By doing so, you can significantly increase the visibly of your work to the scientific community.

New Function

With the optimized version, it is now possible to create ‘Groups’ in the online tool and link your expertise with a particular (research) Group. How does it work?

‘Groups’ are based on a role-based system. This means there are two types of people in a Group: Administrators and Members. Administrators can invite people to become a member of the ‘Group’, change the role of these members, invite or delete members, and more importantly, they have full control on the methods that are submitted within that particular ‘Group’. Administrators are notified when members submit a method to the RE-Place database, and they have the opportunity to review, modify and approve the content before it is included in the RE-Place database. You can access the function ‘My Groups’ via your account on the top right corner of your screen. This function will help to further guarantee the quality and accuracy of the submitted information.
