We’ve compiled the Facts & Figures of the Vrije Universiteit Brussel for the 2021-2022 academic year. This report has become a useful overview of what’s happening at VUB and is great for incorporating into a presentation. One of the topics covered in the Facts & Figures 2021-2022 is ReFlex: not the title of a pop song or an involuntary reaction, but an essential part of the inclusiveness that VUB stands for.

ReFlex stands for reasonable flexibility. It includes all sorts of adjustments to teaching or exam regulations that are necessary to give students equal opportunities. ReFlex status is for students with a physical disability, learning disability or chronic illness, as well as those who are starting their own business or find themselves in a situation that makes studying difficult.

Students with recognised ReFlex status get, for example, greater tolerance for spelling mistakes, the opportunity to choose their own seat in an exam hall and understanding if they can’t attend class. Note: only if their status is recognised, tailored to the specific situation and agreed in advance. More information is available here.

According to the figures collected in the Facts & Figures 2020-2021, VUB has 811 students with ReFlex status, representing 4% of all students.
