Student life gets back on track
As of Monday 28 February, all teaching at the Vrije Universiteit Brussel can again take place in person. Lectures will again be given on the campus, alongside seminars and practical sessions. VUB is happy to welcome its students back to campus. Vice-rector for Education and Student Policy Jan Danckaert: “It will be great to see students walking around on the campuses again, to have them enjoy personal contact and participate in student life again, including going out. I think students really need that. It’s a very important part of their development as people too. In short, it will benefit everyone, students and teachers.”
In order for students to follow lessons as safely as possible, VUB will monitor the CO2 levels in the air of all classrooms. If the limit is exceeded, the lecturer will take a break to open windows and doors.
Face masks are also still mandatory in all indoor areas on the VUB campuses. For lab sessions and seminars with a lot of interaction and where distance cannot be guaranteed, FFP2 masks are mandatory. VUB provides these masks to students at costs price. Exceptions to this are sports classes, where wearing a mask is not mandatory during the sport itself.
Blended learning remains an important way of teaching, which fits VUB’s educational approach. This means that physical and digital forms of teaching are combined so that they complement and support each other.
Lecturers will continue to provide a digital alternative to lectures. Students can thus process the material independently if they are unable to attend or if they are repeating the material for exams.
In addition, student life, including nightlife, can once again continue on the campuses, in line with the corona barometer. VUB is supporting its student associations to allow this to take place in the safest possible circumstances.
