International Research Mobility Grants
Research Foundation Flanders (FWO)​ ​
The Research Foundation Flanders (FWO) offers travel grants to support both outgoing and incoming mobility for researchers affiliated with VUB.​
Going abroad: Funding for PhD candidates and early career postdoctoral researchers to attend conferences, workshops, courses, or conduct short-term or long-term research stays abroad.​
Coming to VUB: Are you looking to invite a postdoctoral colleague to collaborate on a research project at VUB? The FWO provides grants to support incoming postdoctoral researchers for short research stays in Flanders.​

Scientific exchange grants ​(Field-specific)
EMBO (European Molecular Biology Organization) promotes new international collaborations by facilitating the transfer of expertise which not available in the applicant’s lab. The visits span from 1 week to up to 90 days: for PhD and postdoctoral fellows​, with application no later than 3 months prior to departure date.​
BIF (Boehringer Ingelheim Fonds) awards travel grants to support experimental work in basic biomedical research. Funding is available for short-term research stays or participation in practical courses relevant to the applicant’s project, for a duration of up to three months in Europe or overseas:​ for MD, PhD and postdoctoral fellows​ with application at last six weeks prior to departure.​
VUB Doctoral School (Internal funding)
Grant for international stays and summer/winter schools supports PhD candidates at VUB who wish to undertake an international stay or attend a summer or winter school (i.e. a single workshop or a series of workshops comprising at least two full days in total, note: conferences are not eligible).​

Whether you're looking to expand your expertise overseas or collaborate with VUB researchers in Brussels, the fellowships below support both directions of mobility.​
BAEF (Belgian American Educational Foundation)​
The BAEF offers prestigious fellowships for outstanding researchers to conduct research either in the United States or Belgium​: for Belgian nationals / U.S. citizens planning to conduct research or study at a U.S. or Belgiam university respectively with a duration of 12 months​. The Deadline to register is October 31st.
Fulbright​
Fulbright is a competitive fellowship for researchers to conduct study, research, or teaching either in the United States or Belgium. It is meant For Belgian and Luxembourgish nationals planning to conduct research or teach at a U.S. institution Fulbright BE/LU or for U.S. citizens aiming to conduct research or teach at VUB US Fulbright Program. The fellowship takes up to 9 months​, with a yearly deadline on December 1st.
Marie Skłodowska-Curie Actions (PF) ​
The Marie Skłodowska-Curie Postdoctoral Fellowships (MSCA PF) are prestigious European grants that support talented researchers looking to enhance their career through international, interdisciplinary, and intersectoral mobility. These fellowships allow postdocs to carry out a research project in Europe (or beyond) in collaboration with a European host institution. Open to researchers of any nationality who hold a PhD and have no more than 8 years of research experience after their doctorate.
