On bare foot ...
Untill august 2025 : current room of +/-30 m² is equipped with tatami combat sports mats and mirrors. The limitedsize of the room makes it particularly suitable for smaller groups. Four to six persons is ideal, up to ten is also fine. However, for groups of more than ten persons, it can get a little crowded and sweaty.
All combat sports for which a tatami is required can be practised here. Bare feet feel right at home in this hall. If you practice a combat sport which requires footwear, opt for footwear specifically intended for use in a combat sports hall. In the past, some users also used this sports hall for dance, pilates and yoga. For dance, mirrors are provided. The tatami can be put aside to allow the space to dance on the laminate floor.
As from september 2025 : NEW! Martial Arts Expertise Center of 800m². Half of this facility will be equiped with mats and the other half for boxing. Federations, clubs and individuals will be well served with this +/-3.5milj € investment of the VUB anno 2025-2026! So bigger and better for all martial arts adepts. And as a plus for orginizations : the VUB wants to share it's expertise on nutrition, training, mental and other academic topics with the world. For this we created the Center for Martial Arts and Science. A complet new future to explore!
A little trivia for combat sports clubs, federations and fanatics
VUB is finishing the construction of a new facility in its sports center ... a Martial Arts Expertise Center. 800m² specifically for martial arts of which half destined for sports on mats (judo, jiu jitsu, aikodo, krav maga, budo, tae kwondo, ...) and the other half full equiped for all boxing variants (English, French, Tai boxing, ...). Opening in september 2025!
Rent the martial arts hall (dojo)
For individual rentals of the "dojo" by the hour, at least one of the users must have a valid sports card. You can request individual rentals a maximum of 3 times. For user agreements (if you rent the dojo via a contract for a longer periode) a sports card is not required.
For the boxing facilities, you either join one of the clubs active there, join activities with you sportcard with punch in organisation of VUB Sports, or come during the "open gym" hours and train individually (simular to the swimming pool : you have to book via the VUB Sport app, pay per visit either by purchasing a singel ticket at the front desk or via your sports card topped up with 10 or 20 boxing sessions, and then work-out in respect of the internal rules (and follow the guidelines of our coach present in the boxinghall).

With the "last minute exception" as a rule : on the day itself VUB students can rent the remaining available facilities at Student Peak rate.

Changing rooms
Use of the changing rooms and showers on the first floor of the VUB sports complex is included in the rental rate.
