Who can apply? 

  • In case of study mobility: Vrije Universiteit Brussel (Home institution) should have established an academic cooperation agreement with a higher educational institution in one of the priority countries (Host institution).
  • In case of an internship: the student, Vrije Universiteit Brussel (Exchange Coordinator) and an institution/organisation/company in one of the priority countries (Host institution) need to have established a learning agreement for traineeships.
  • Vrije Universiteit Brussel has selected a VUB student to send to the host institution, and such selection has been accepted by the host institution
  • Nationality is not a criterion but the student should be enrolled fulltime at VUB.
  • The student cannot be staying in the country of the host institution already at the time of the selection procedure.

Duration

The duration of the exchange can range from one month up to one year for exchange to Brazil, Chile, Japan, Mexico, Morocco, South-Africa and the United States of America.

The exchange to Turkey has a minimum duration of one month and a maximum of two months for study purpose and a duration of one month for internship purpose.

Start: First or second semester of the academic year following the selection.

Deadline of application

The call has been launched by the Vlaamse Universiteiten en Hogescholenraad (VLUHR) and information is sent to the exchange coordinators and the students who indicated that they were interested. The application deadline for exchanges in 2024-2025 is 23 February 2024.

Grant

The grant amounts to 700 euro with a total maximum of 2,800 €. A lump sum for travel expenses is also given.

Procedure

The application form is distributed through the exchange coordinators and can be obtained from the International Relations Office (IRMO) (international.relations@vub.be)

Applicants should submit:

  1. Application Form
  2. Motivation Letter
  3. Learning Agreement for studies or traineeship, signed by the Student and the VUB Exchange Coordinator
  4. Transcripts of records of the previous years and of the first semester of the ongoing academic year
  5. Letter of recommendation by a VUB-professor
  6. Copy of international passport or national registration card

IRMO will send the applications for selection to the secretariat of the Vlaamse Universiteiten en Hogescholen Raad (VLUHR) on behalf of the applicants.

Selection

In collaboration with the Flemish Ministry of Education and Training, a selection committee will make the selection, based on the following criteria:

  • The applicant’s previous study results in the Transcripts of records
  • The quality of the applicant’s motivation
  • The quality of the learning and training agreement
  • The reason for recommending the applicant in the recommendation letter

The VLUHR secretariat will communicate the selection results to the student and the International Office of the VUB.
