What is a master’s degree?

A master’s degree is an academic programme at a university, comprising at least 60 ECTS credits. You deepen your knowledge in your field of study and complete the programme with a master’s dissertation (thesis). With a master’s degree, you can enter the labour market or continue in academia as a doctoral researcher.

Would you like to teach? You can choose an educational master’s programme. If you wish to continue your studies, you may consider a second master’s degree (via a preparatory programme) or further specialise through an advanced master's programme.

Who can enrol in a master’s programme?

To start a master’s programme, you need a specific academic bachelor’s degree. If you do not have this, you can, for many master’s programmes, first follow a bridging or preparatory programme to prepare for the master’s programme of your choice.

At VUB, you can do master's programmes in both Dutch and English, so you can choose what suits you best. In the heart of Brussels, you will study in an international and multilingual environment, the ideal place to think beyond borders.
