Activities
As a Faculty, we organise high-quality education and research in an international environment around disciplines as diverse as Psychology and (Adult) Educational Sciences. We are guided in this by a well-considered policy plan and strategy. In order to achieve our set goals, we divide responsibilities and powers over various bodies. Discover our mission and vision, and what our organisational structure exactly looks like.
Mission and vision
Critical, engaged global citizens
Our Faculty is located on the VUB Main Campus in Etterbeek. We aim to educate students to become critical, independent-minded global citizens who are committed to building a sustainable, humanistic society and embody a spirit of free and inquisitive inquiry. In doing so, we prepare them for professional careers as agogical sciensts, educational scientists, or psychologists. Our experienced and approachable lecturers offer inclusive and socially relevant courses, tailored to the needs of our students and the professional field.
Our focus
- In the Psychology course, the focus is on the scientist-practitioner model. We guide our students as they put their newly acquired scientific knowledge into practice and develop it based on this practical experience. In our curriculum, we also pay attention to the cross-cultural and metropolitan context. With respect to such a context, Brussels is the place to be.
- The educational sciences programmes focus on guiding educational change. In an international and multilingual learning environment, students develop evidence-informed insights and practice-oriented skills to design learning environments, enhance educational practices, and support innovation processes at both school and policy levels.
- The adult educational sciences programme centres on social engagement. Students explore themes such as inclusion, diversity, and sustainability. They learn to connect research and practice, always with an eye for structural change.
Internationalisation
- Our English-language Master's in Educational Sciences attracts a large international student population.
- Our students can also go on exchange to one of our European partner institutions.
- Would you prefer to stick closer to home? Then you can take one or more courses of the programmes at ULB. Our French-speaking sister university is located a stone's throw from VUB campus and is the perfect place to brush up your French. There are also numerous international collaborations in the field of research, including within the EUTOPIA network.
The world needs you
Our Faculty actively contributes to a better society. We research society and at the same time pass our knowledge on to future generations through education so that they can participate in and seek solutions to the challenges of today and tomorrow.
