Prosperity still isn’t a daily reality for everyone. Even in Belgium, about one in seven people lives on the edge of poverty. How do we close this huge gap between rich and poor? How do we eliminate poverty from the world?

For six weeks the VUB Community can watch inspiring and engaging films thanks to the partnership with Flagey and some inspiring curators. Every week a different theme, every week new films. All in the context of 'The World Needs You'. Order your (free) ticket on the film festival's website. You will receive an e-mail with your personal link for six weeks of film pleasure. This week we will also tell inspiring stories of VUB students.

Mandela

This week's curator is PhD-student and activist Jimmy Hendry Nzally. He chose the gripping life story of Nelson Mandela, who is a symbol of 'Prosperity' for many Africans.

The Cannes prize-winning masterpiece Capharnaüm is also not to be missed. In it, a 12-year-old boy from Beirut sues his parents for giving birth to him. Director Nadine Labaki's film is a probing portrait of parenthood and survival in Lebanon's poorest neighbourhoods, told through the eyes of a child.

The Life of Esteban shows how belief in one's own talent can be the way out of poverty, the Jam Jar Allegory how the suit of big business money can sometimes conceal a lot of emptiness.
