“We are responsible for adult education and we are stationed here at the VUB. It is quite unusual for us to work here on campus, as we have no direct link to the VUB itself. Working on the campus of a university such as the VUB has a lot of advantages. For example, we also use some of the services of the VUB. We rent classrooms from the VUB and it is very nice to maintain a relationship with the VUB in this way. Besides that there is of course the restaurant, which is always handy. Certainly for me, for example, because we often work until very late, sometimes until ten in the evening. It is of course very nice to have a restaurant here, especially now that it has been open longer. I myself come from Ninove, which can sometimes cause problems. Public transport is no longer an option for me so late in the evening, so it may take a long time by car, but of course that is not the VUB’s fault. I would just like a few more parking spaces on campus, but as far as I know the VUB is reinstating the barriers at the entrance so that is already a good initiative. Despite the large crowds here, I still very much enjoy working here.”
On the occasion of the VUB’s 50th anniversary, prof. dr. Martina Temmerman asked the students in her introductory course on journalism genres to make portraits of people on the VUB campus. The ‘snapshots’ resulting from the project Humans of the VUB offer a lovely cross section of life on our university campus in 2019/20.
