How do we prepare higher education for a rapidly changing world? At the VUB Education Conference 2026, educators, professional staff and students came together to exchange ideas, challenge assumptions and pursue a shared ambition: shaping education that is fit for the future.
The conference offered not only space for reflection and discussion, but also an opportunity to connect and recognise the people behind our education. At a time when education professionals face rising expectations, rapid change and complex societal challenges, one message stood out throughout the day: high-quality education is something we create together.

During the plenary sessions and interactive workshops, participants explored the future of higher education. How do we continue to provide high-quality education in a rapidly changing world? How can we best support students throughout their learning journey? And how do we prepare them for a society that is constantly evolving?
The discussions highlighted that higher education is at a pivotal moment. New technologies create exciting opportunities, but they also raise fundamental questions about learning, assessment and curriculum design. At the same time, the need for human connection, a strong sense of community and a vibrant campus experience remains as important as ever.
What stood out most throughout the day was the willingness to share experiences and learn from one another. The many examples of good practice and lively discussions demonstrated the depth of expertise, creativity and commitment across the VUB community to further strengthen education.
With the external institutional review in 2027 on the horizon and the development of a new education policy plan underway, the conference was not only a moment for reflection but also a catalyst for action. Collaboration, innovation and quality assurance will continue to be the foundations of strong, forward-looking education.
