On 21 September in Jette and 22 September in Etterbeek, students will come together to celebrate the start of the new 2026–27 academic year at the VUB Kick-Off. The event gives them the opportunity to discover VUB services, student associations and Brussels-based organisations, while meeting fellow students in a relaxed and informal atmosphere.
Both campuses will feature music, food and drinks, as well as a range of activities. Free giveaways and competitions with great prizes will add to the festive atmosphere. Whether they are setting foot on campus for the first time or have been there for years, all students are welcome to come together and celebrate the start of the academic year.

Kick-Off X Academic Opening Ceremony
This year, the Kick-Off in Etterbeek coincides with the Academic Opening Ceremony on the Main Campus. In the presence of the entire VUB community and its partners, VUB Rector Jan Danckaert will officially mark the start of the new academic year.
Together with other guests on stage, he will explore questions that will shape the future of education, knowledge and society – and, above all, the future of young people.
The ceremony will be followed by a reception on the esplanade and in the green atrium, right in the heart of the Kick-Off. It will bring students, staff, partners and the wider VUB community together to celebrate the start of the new academic year.
