After graduation
The Postgraduate in Algology is designed to teach you advanced and multidisciplinary knowledge and skills of pain management, preparing you for a career as a physician in a hospital, pain centre or private practice.
What have you learnt?
After your algology studies, you'll be able to investigate acute pain syndromes, establish a suitable treatment for such acute nociceptive syndromes and follow up on the results. In addition, you'll be armed to evaluate the multidisciplinary character of a specific pain syndrome, including the implications of such pain complaints on the socio-economical functioning of the patients and the psycho-social consequences that derive from it. You'll also be capable of performing a full evaluation of chronic pain syndromes, based on specific pain anamnesis, somatosensory clinical evaluations, application of specialised nociceptive diagnostic techniques and hetero-anamnesis, and drawing up a individualised multimodal and multidisciplinary treatment plan, explaining it to the patient (and their family) and properly following up on its implementation. With your abilities to guide the patient actively and competently during revalidation programmes, you'll optimise and facilitate their reconditioning, reactivation and socio-economical reintegration. Lastly, you'll know how to evaluate insufficient analgesia from an ethical, moral and social point of view.
