RADMEP+ Tracks

Which specialisations are available?

The European Master in Radiation and its effects on MicroElectronics and Photonics Technologies (RADMEP) (120 ECTS) is a research-based master’s programme in which you can specialise in the following fields:

  • Radiation & Photonics (VUB in collaboration with UGENT)
  • Radiation & MicroElectronics

RADMEP+ VUB: Photonics Track

At VUB, RADMEP+ students are embedded in one of Europe's leading photonics research environments. The Photonics track's semester 2 is jointly delivered by VUB and Ghent University, combining the strengths of two institutions that together form the backbone of photonics higher education in Belgium.

VUB's B-PHOT research group brings together expertise in optical sensors, photonic integrated circuits, biophotonics and instrumentation: the same research lines that feed directly into the RADMEP+ curriculum. Students work in state-of-the-art labs and are taught by active researchers, not just lecturers.

Brussels itself is an asset: the capital of Europe, home to major international institutions and a city that makes the programme's focus on space, nuclear and regulatory-sensitive industries feel immediate rather than abstract.

If you choose the Photonics track, semester 2 (January–June) brings you to Brussels and VUB (in collaboration with UGENT). You take a total of 30 ECTS: core courses in photonic integrated circuits, semiconductor devices and hands-on Laboratories in Photonics Research, plus a RADMEP+ Winter School of Photonics and a set of advanced electives range from optical sensors and communication systems to machine learning in photonics.
