Brushing up on your German, raising your English to an academic level or learning a new language? At ACTO, you get high-quality language training. Useful to know: all ACTO language courses are open to VUB students and staff members. Most of the courses in the open range are also open to all other interested persons.

Language tests

A study programme in another language, a new job... in many situations, you need to be able to provide official proof of your language level. Do you need an officially recognised language certificate? Then ACTO can help you with your English, Dutch and French language tests.

Language tests Dutch

ITNA (Interuniversitary Language test Dutch for non-native speakers)

ITNA: for those who wish to enrol in a Flemish university but do not yet meet the language requirements or require an official B2 or C1 language certificate for work. 

CNaVT

For non-native speakers who wish to obtain the Dutch as a Foreign Language Certificate B2 or C1 of the Dutch Language Union.

Language tests English

TOEFL (Test Of English as a Foreign Language)

TOEFL (Test Of English as a Foreign Language): for those who wish to enrol for an English language programme at VUB, but do not yet meet the language requirements stated in the OER. Or anyone who needs an official language certificate for a job or study abroad.

ITACE  for lecturers (Interuniversity Test of Academic English)

ITACE for lecturers (Interuniversity Test of Academic English): for lecturers who need a language qualification certificate in English language proficiency at ERK level C1. 

ITACE for CLIL teachers (Interuniversity Test of Academic English)

For teachers in Flemish secondary schools who wish to teach their subjects in English. Participants can obtain a C1 certificate that is accepted by the Flemish Ministry of Education.

ITACE for students (Interuniversity Test of Academic English)

ITACE for students (Interuniversity Test of Academic English): for students who need to prove their proficiency in English. Participants can achieve a B1, B2, C1 or C2 certificate via the test.

Language tests French

DELF (Diplôme d’études en langue française)

Official diploma certifying language proficiency for non-native French speakers. Through the test participants can demonstrate their level of proficiency (A1, A2, B1 and B2) in the French language.

DALF (Diplôme approfondi de langue française)

Similar to DELF, an official diploma certifying C1 or C2-level language proficiency for non-native French speakers. 

Language support for VUB staff

Services for academics - Academic Dutch

The colleagues of the VUB Academic Dutch team support you in drawing up rubrics for academic writing, teaching materials for a certain writing assignment and clear instructions of writing assignments. The language coaches can also visit on request for guest lectures on Academic Dutch; the teaching materials will always be adapted to the target group.

‘English for staff members’, ‘English for the StudieBegeleidingsCentrum’, or something completely different?
