As a new VUB student, your academic year starts with the Orientation Days. You will receive all the essential information for a strong start, get a clear idea of what to expect, and get to know the campus facilities, your fellow students and your programme!
For who?
For all new students starting an English-taught programme at the faculty of Science & Bioengineering Sciences.
What's on the agenda?
Each programme has its own schedule, so make sure to check your class schedule carefully. Some programmes start earlier or follow a different planning. We expect you to attend all activities.
Please note: Orientation Days for Urban Studies students start one week earlier, on 9 September.

Faculty Welcome
During the Faculty Welcome Session, you will discover everything you need to start smoothly at VUB. You will receive information about your class schedule, books and course materials, how the faculty works, and more practical information.
Programme Welcome
During the Programme Welcome session, you will get all the information you need to start your master’s programme. We will explain how the programme is structured and what to keep in mind when shaping your own study path. You will also get a clearer idea of what is expected from you as a master’s student, how to plan your academic year, and how to make the most of the opportunities available at VUB. You will receive practical tips from your programme team and find out who to contact with programme-specific questions.
Please note: Molecular Biology students are required to take mandatory pre-tests on Thursday 17 & Friday 18 September. You will receive more information from your programme in due time.
Ready, Set, Go!
In smaller groups, you will explore what to expect as a student at VUB. We will look at the skills that can help you get off to a good start, the challenges you might face during your studies, and what you can do when things get a bit more difficult.
Campus Tour
In just one hour, we will help you get familiar with your campus. Where is the restaurant, where are the libraries, where can you go with your questions, where are the computer rooms, and where can you find the sports facilities?
Welcome Drinks
During the Welcome Drinks, you will kick off your VUB journey in great company. Meet your fellow students, get to know your professors and join the rector in raising a glass to the start of the academic year.

International Student
Are you an international student? Then we would also love to see you at the activities specifically organised for international students. Please note: this is in addition to your programme’s welcome activities.

- 13.30 - 15.30: Info session for all International students (Exchange and Degree-seeking students)
- 15.30 - 17.00: Social event: Babel-Game show
Exchange Student
Are you an exchange student? Then we would also love to see you at the activities specifically organised for exchange and international students. Please note: this is in addition to your programme’s welcome activities.

- 13.30 - 15.30: Info session for all International students (Exchange and Degree-seeking students)

Are you enrolled in an evening programme?
On Thursday 17 September, there will be a specific welcome session for students enrolled in an evening programme.
Evening students are welcome at 18:00 in lecture hall Q.A.
- 18.00 - 19.00: General information session to help you find your way around VUB, in lecture hall QA
- 19.00 - 19.30: Faculty information session for evening students
- 19.00 - 20.30: Networking moment to answer any final questions and get to know your fellow students. Snacks and drinks will be provided!

Where can I find my orientation programme?
The exact times and locations of your orientation activities can be found in the course schedule.
Follow these steps:
- Select as WE your faculty.
- Select your education level (bachelor's, master's, bridging ("schakelprogramma") or preparatory programme ("voorbereidingsprogramma")).
- Drag your programme to My criteria.
- Click Show schedule.
- Make sure Week 1 is selected at the top of the page.
This will show you exactly where and when your orientation activities take place.
