Job student Laura finds out what it means to be a student and tries out everything for Laura’s Dive Into Student Life. In this series, she shares openly about her adventures: new friends, unexpected discoveries, and a party from time to time. Tried and tested this time: a workshop at Study Guidance.

"At Study Guidance, aka, SBC, you can find a spot to study at, to speak with a study counsellor, to get advice from a student psychologist, or to follow a workshop. The latter is what I did recently by joining the workshop “Dealing with stress”."

"Study Guidance organises plenty of workshops throughout the year: workshops on how to make study plans, language help, or workshops about dealing with multiple choice exams. Upcoming workshops can be found here. On their event page, you can register for free for both online and in-person workshops."

Learning over lunch

"I joined an in-person workshop on campus, in building F. As soon as I entered the building, a student directed me to the red counter, where I registered my attendance. The workshop was held from 12 until 13 and we were allowed to take our lunch break during the workshop, which meant that you could easily join in between classes."

Practical tools and relatable stories

"At the workshop itself, we were given a printed version of the Powerpoint presentation that we could keep and take notes on. We first learned what stress was, which helped me gain insight in recognising stress signals and understanding why feeling stressed can also be a good thing. Afterwards, we were given practical tools to deal with stress."

"I really enjoyed the workshop, as the vibe was pleasant and open. There was space to ask questions and to share thoughts with the rest of the group. It allowed everyone to learn from the experiences of others, but it mostly felt good to listen and to realise that you’re not the only one who sometimes struggles with stress. It was a different experience to talk about stress in a group setting and to look for ways to manage it."

Conclusion: ready for exams in just one lunch break

"I can only recommend the workshops: in only an hour, you will receive plenty of tools that you can use. It can be a useful lunch break to do on your own, or together with classmates in preparation for the upcoming study period!"
