When can you go on exchange during your studies?

Students can go on exchange during bachelor year 3 or master year 1 (of TALK, MUBA, MUMA).

Conditions to go on exchange

To see if you are eligible to go on exchange (grade-wise & based on acquired ECTS), please consult the Procedures Internationalisering LW 2526.

Application process

1. First of all, for any destination: do the necessary research! For instance, check whether you have the language competence required by your host institution and if not, check whether they have an interesting offer in English-taught courses for exchange students.
2. For an EU exchange destination:
   • Select your top 3 EU destinations
   • Fill out the online form (this includes uploading your motivation letter and transcript of records of the previous academic year)
3. For a non-EU exchange destination (destination outside Europe):
   • Select a non-EU destination and 1 EU back-up destination
   • Send an e -mail with these destinations to exchange.outgoing@vub.be, your exchange coordinator and mobility.lw@vub.be

When more students apply than the number of places available at a specific destination, or when there are more candidates than funding, a ranking will be made based on the weighted average and letter of motivation.

Application deadline

• Deadline non-EU destinations: December 10, 2025, 23:59.
• Deadline EU destinations: February 2, 2026, 23:59.
