FAQs

Are the VUB Sport activities only accessible to VUB students or can I also participate as a staff member, alumnus or non-VUB student?

At VUB everyone is welcome to exercise and practise sports with our students. Whether you are a student, staff member, alumnus or sympathiser, you will surely find something to your liking in our large sports complex and offering. Students at VUB (and EHB), staff members and alumni enjoy a discount when showing their student, staff or alumni card (also at our partner Basic Fit on campus). Others pay the standard rate.

Our student competitions, such as the Sports Trophy, the Futsal League and the Flemish, Belgian or international student championships are exclusively reserved for students.

How can I participate in the VUB Sport activities?

Sport!Mix is a package consisting of more than 20 different sports which are offered on a weekly basis during the academic lecture and exam weeks. These activities are open to everyone. You can find more information here.

More than 50 clubs and 20 schools use our sports complex every year. We welcome users of all ages for more than 20 different sports. Are you looking for something that is not included in the Sport!Mix offer or do you specifically want to practise a certain sport on a regular basis and under the guidance of a coach? Check sportinbrussel.be for an overview of all sports clubs in Brussels recognised by the Flemish Community Commission (VGC), and drop by our reception desk or contact us by e-mail at sport@vub.be for more information.

Can anyone use the VUB sports facilities?

We open our sports facilities to VUB students, staff members, alumni, sympathisers and local residents. Every year, more than 10,000 athletes make use of our sports infrastructure, individually or in groups.

As a school, club, organisation or group of friends, you can rent our infrastructure through a rental agreement for (half) a season or for an event. For more information click here.

As an individual athlete you can access our swimming pool during public opening hours, you can use the athletics track or you can rent a tennis court or squash court.

How can I make use of the VUB sports facilities?

As a club, school, organisation or group of friends, would you like to use our sports facilities on a regular basis? Then apply online through our website.

If our infrastructure is not being used for our own activities or by one of the many schools and clubs active in our sports complex, it is available for individual rental. Check the availability via our website and drop by during our reception opening hours (from 9:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m.) to book and pay.

As an individual athlete you are welcome to come and swim, run, play tennis or squash. To do so, you must have a sports card that you can top up with swimming, running, tennis and squash sessions. Contact us via the VUB Sport app.

Why do I, as a private individual, have to book in advance and register on site via the VUB Sport app?

As a sports provider, the app gives us a good insight into what is popular and what is not, and what are the busiest and most quiet time slots. This way, we can better tailor our offer and services to the needs and wishes of our athletes.

Reserving in advance also has a major advantage for you: not only do you make a reservation, but at the same time you commit to practise sports a number of times a week. We know from experience that this will encourage you to exercise more regularly and therefore help you feel and maintain genuine results for your physical and mental health. And that is the ultimate goal of VUB Sport, which was set up for that very reason: to be fit and healthy in life together.

Can I as a club, school or other organisation make use of the VUB Sport infrastructure?

So far, more than 50 clubs and 20 schools have made use of our sports infrastructure. You can do this on a regular basis or at a specific time of year for a specific event. Check here to find out how, to view the conditions and rates, and submit a request via the dedicated form on the website. Clubs and schools that have previously used our infrastructure have priority in making reservations for the upcoming season until 1 May. We will process new requests based on the application date once we have scheduled all existing users.

Do I have to take certain regulations into account when reserving and using the VUB sports infrastructure?

The use of our infrastructure is subject to specific conditions and rules of conduct. All visitors to and users of the VUB sports complex are expected to be aware of and observe the regulations in force at the sports complex and on campus.

Please check the respective regulations.

Are there any rules for participating in the VUB Sport activities?

All visitors to and users of the VUB sports complex are expected to be aware of and observe the regulations in force at the sports complex and on campus.

Am I insured when exercising or practising sports at VUB?

Students and staff members of VUB (and EHB) are insured for physical accidents while practising sports at VUB. Were you injured while playing sports on our campus or during an activity organised by VUB Sport? Then download the notification form for accidents with physical injury here. Go to a doctor to get a diagnosis and advice, report it as usual to your health insurance fund, complete the VUB form and send it to us within 48 hours of the accident so we can take further action. The insurance will then reimburse the part (or at least the largest part) not reimbursed by the health insurance fund.

Not a VUB student or staff member? Then you will need your own insurance for physical accidents during sports.

VUB Sport also has civil liability insurance. In the exceptional case that we are at fault for something that happens to one of our athletes (e.g. defective installations), they can file a claim which will be investigated and further processed by our insurance company.
