Conditions to go on exchange
EU exchange
In principle, you need to:
- have obtained an average of 12/20 (60%) when combining the results obtained in the year(s) before your application and in the first semester of the current academic year
- have no failed courses or courses to which you were absent before leaving
The average of 12/20 (60%) is calculated as follows: 50% results of previous academic year(s), 50% results of the current semester.
In short: doing well in the current semester can vastly improve your average.
NON-EU exchange
In principle, you need to:
- have obtained an average of 12/20 (60%) when combining the results obtained in the year(s) before your application
- have no failed courses or courses to which you were absent before leaving
The average of 12/20 (60%) is calculated based on the results of previous academic year(s)
You can submit your nomination dossier if you have failed courses after the January exam session.
Keep in mind that in this case you can only receive the final permission to leave after the second exam session in August/September.

After you have been nominated to go on an exchange it is time to prepare your Learning Agreement (LA). In your Learning Agreement you indicate the courses you will take at your host institution and match them with the VUB courses you are replacing. You will find all information in the template below.
