PHORTIFY: PHOtonics education netwoRk for nexT-gen Innovation and digital skills excellence For industrY and society

Phortify offers targeted support to foster inclusion, mobility and excellence in photonics education and training. 

Available Phortify support at Vrije Universiteit Brussel includes: Master Programme Scholarships for international students (selected nationalities under the Digital Europe Program) and Master Programme Scholarships for local students who participate in the Phortify project by enrolling in the MSc in Photonics Engineering at VUB. The scholarships are intended to support students’ participation in Phortify-aligned Master’s education and may contribute to costs related to study, mobility or other education-related expenses directly linked to the enrolled Master’s programme, in line with the objectives of the Phortify project.

For students starting in 2026, these scholarships are offered as part of the PHORTIFY program funded by the European Union (EU). Scholarships are awarded based on academic excellence and are granted for a fixed period of 12 months.

INTERNATIONAL STUDENTS

International students wishing to obtain the degree of MSc. In Photonics Engineering can apply for scholarships during the regular application procedure, deadlines see below. The current Phortify Scholarship is EURO 12.000 for non-EU students and EUR 7.200 for EU-students (reduced tuition fee) for one academic year.

Applicants must be nationals of an eligible country as announced by the EU: Albania, Algeria, Argentina, Armenia, Australia, Austria, Azerbaijan, Belgium, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Brazil, Bulgaria, Canada, Croatia, Cyprus, Czechia, Denmark, Egypt, Estonia, Finland, France, Georgia, Germany, Greece, Hungary, Iceland, India, Ireland, Israel, Italy, Japan, Jordan, Korea (South Korea), Kosovo, Latvia, Lebanon, Libya, Liechtenstein, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Malta, Mexico, Moldova (Republic of), Montenegro, Morocco, Netherlands, North Macedonia, Norway, Palestine, Poland, Portugal, Romania, Serbia, Singapore, Slovakia, Slovenia, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, Syria, Taiwan, Tunisia, Turkey, Ukraine, United States (US). BELGIAN STUDENTS

Belgian students enrolling in the MSc In Photonics Engineering can also apply for scholarships during the regular application procedure, deadlines see below. The current Phortify Scholarship for Belgian students is EURO 7.200 for one academic year.

(Scholarships can only be awarded to students who are studying on campus, not online).
