Good-looking people enough at the VUB. But do you still recognize them? As part of our 50th anniversary, we knocked on the door of some VUB professors and asked them to take a look at their old photo archive and give us a photo from their student days. And admit it... often with hilariously surprising results. Also surprising are their anecdotes, maybe not for VUB-experts, but hilarious the more.
Who are we looking for?
She received her Master of Business Economics and Ph.D from the Solvay Business School of the Vrije Universiteit Brussel. With her research group MOBI (Mobility, Logistics and Automotive Technology), she became a widely consulted expert with an interdisciplinary focus on sustainable logistics, transport and mobility, on electric and hybrid vehicles. Meeting her on campus Etterbeek, at first sight you are surprised by her young and natural looks. You probably know her best because of her courses in operations and logistics management, as well as in transport and sustainable mobility and engagement in sustainable economics and mobility, and as a co-founder of the ‘Mobility Congress’.
Indeed, the young woman in this picture is the one and only professor Cathy Macharis.
Read more below the images and discover the VUB-anecdote of professor Macharis.
The anecdote of Macharis
"Once upon October, I get a phone call for the first lesson of the new Academic Year, questionning where I was. I jump on my bike, arrive on Campus Etterbeek, leave my computer home, so start my lesson ‘out of the blue’. All students listen very fascinated. Satisfied I join my office after two hours of teaching. There I find out I wear my sweater in reverse! Is this why students looked at me happy and interested?"
"Our academic community of students and professors is lively and anything but boring. A free and easy going environment combined with serious scientific academics are typical VUB."
Do you aslo recognize these professors?
