In 2010 photographer Brandon Stanton started taking photographs of the people he met on the streets of New York. He placed the resulting portraits and vignettes, based on the conversations he had, online. His blog, “Humans of New York”, quickly became an internet phenomenon. In the following years, many people recreated the project in other cities - in Belgium, BRUZZ maintained “Humans of Brussels” for a while.

On the occasion of the VUB’s 50th anniversary, prof. dr. Martina Temmerman asked the students in her introductory course on journalism genres to make portraits of people on the VUB campus. The ‘snapshots’ resulting from the project “Humans of the VUB” offer a lovely cross section of life on our university campus in 2019/20. We give a heartfelt thanks to the students for their contribution and kindly invite you to browse through the portraits:
