Emeritus professor in experimental physics Henri Eisendrath’s namesake conjures up a world of memories: "The Poincaré -Einstein debates in general relativity and the contributions of both scientists in quantum physics are still very topical, as is demonstrated by our recently released documentary ‘Kwantumrevolutie’. Personally, my first encounter with this notable figure in 1957 has stayed with me and is still vivid. During my search for the "right" university I met professor Roger Van Geen who enthused me with his stories about free research at the ULB and about what the university stood for, for example during WWII. The choice was made. That summer I read about Poincaré’s life. That was my preparation for the first academic year. I have never regretted the decision I made in the summer of 1957. "

"Thinking must never submit itself,

neither to a dogma,

nor to a party,

nor to a passion,

nor to an interest,
nor to a preconceived idea,

nor to anything whatsoever,
except to the facts themselves,

because for it to submit to anything else would be the end of its existence."

Henri Poincaré, 1909
