Your student visa

You have received you conditional letter of acceptance and you should now request a student visa into Belgium.

The steps below provide more information on what you should do.

If you are on this page, that most likely means you have been referred here by your acceptance email. If you are a non EEA student, this mail will contain your letter of acceptance as PDF attachment. This document is essential for your visa application.

Please note that the letter of acceptance is always conditional, the condition is at least that we verify that you obtained your diploma. Other conditions such as an obligatory preparatory programme will be mentioned if applicable.

You should also reply to this email with the following information:

  • Your first name and family name
  • The Belgian Embassy or Consulate at which you will apply for your visa.

The Admissions Office will then forward your letter of acceptance for verification purposes.

With our letter of acceptance, you should apply for a visa. We have made a handy overview for you on this website.

Your visa is only valid for three months and you will need to register at the municipality. Read all about it on this page.

Confirming the authenticity of your diploma

Before you can sign the online enrolment contract, we will need to verify your diploma as your letter of acceptance states. This page will guide you through several steps to go from being accepted to being enrolled at our university.

You will find more detailed information on how you can verify your diploma below, as well as an answer to other questions you may have.

We will keep this page updated continuously as the COVID-19 pandemic evolves.

How?

  1. You do not need to pass by pass by our office in person to finalise your enrolment.

Please contact your school so they may confirm your diploma directly to admissions@vub.be . This will allow us to verify your information and allow us to continue with your enrolment.
  2. When your diploma has been confirmed, please allow us a few working days to prepare your enrolment.
  3. Once confirmed we will send you an email so you can sign your online enrolment contract. This is your formal enrolment.
  4. The invoice is sent to your VUB email address after enrolling.

When?

The enrolment period starts on the 1st of July. We will then be able to revise your application file a final time and allow you to sign the enrolment contract.

We advise you to have your school confirm your graduation before the start of the academic year (14th of September).

What?

Enrolling means that you will sign a contract in which you agree to our teaching and examination regulations.

Please note that you will be charged tuition fees after signing the contract.

You should have your diploma confirmed and enroll before the 15th of October at the latest. This is also mentioned on your letter of acceptance.

Diploma confirmations that are submitted after that date will no longer be able to be processed unfortunately.

After enrolling, we will send the invoice to your new VUB email address. You should transfer the fees via bank transfer. Please be careful to use the correct personal reference.

Please note that tuition fees are owed when you sign the online contract. How much you will actually pay mainly depends on the programme you will follow and your nationality.

You may find more information on our tuition fees on this webpage.

Our tuition fees are calculated by charging a fixed amount every academic year you (re-)enroll and a variable fee per credit that you take. For example, the fixed fee is €1000 and the variable fee is €25 per ECTS for a programme of 60 ECTS in total, you will pay (€25 x 60)+€1000 = €2500.

You should also note that these tuition fees are liable to change per academic year. Please visit the webpage above for more information.

Chinese nationals who have obtained a Chinese diploma will need to send in their APS certificate as well as their diploma. Some students may be exempted from (part of) this requirement.

We have prepared an overview for you on this webpage.
