Assistentenconferentie (ACCA) - 21/10/2022
Het ACCA-team van de Faculteit Recht en Criminologie van de Vrije Universiteit Brussel (VUB) nodigt u graag uit voor de elfde editie van de Assistentenconferentie/Conférence des assistant.e.s (ACCA 2022), met als centraal onderzoeksthema “Shaping Utopia Through Law – Hoe het recht (g)een antwoord biedt op maatschappelijke uitdagingen”. De vraagstukken waarmee de maatschappij vandaag wordt geconfronteerd, zijn omvangrijk en divers, gaande van gezondheid, democratie, gelijke rechten, migratie, vrede en burgerparticipatie tot klimaat, duurzaamheid, digitalisering en innovatie. Deze uitdagingen doen verlangen naar de idee van een ideale samenleving of een “utopia”; een beeld dat naar voren werd geschoven door onder meer Thomas More.
Met de slogan van de VUB “De wereld heeft je nodig” wordt eenieder aangespoord een steentje bij te dragen aan een dergelijke “ideale samenleving”. Juristen en criminologen spelen hierbij ongetwijfeld een centrale rol, al roept deze rol verschillende (onderzoeks)vragen op. Welke antwoorden kunnen het recht en de criminologische wetenschappen bieden op de voormelde vraagstukken en uitdagingen? Is het wenselijk dat deze uitdagingen worden aangepakt via een juridische oplossing? Bestaat er zoiets als een law-based utopia? U vindt de Call for Papers hier.

Presentatie/paper/poster
We nodigden alle onderzoekers, assistenten en doctoraatsstudenten van de Belgische faculteiten Recht en Criminologie uit om, vertrekkend van hun specialisatie, een abstract in te dienen die kadert binnen dit onderzoeksthema met het oog op het geven van een presentatie tijdens de conferentie. Presentaties kunnen worden gegeven in het Nederlands, Frans of Engels, en duren maximaal 15 minuten.
Alle sprekers worden bovendien aangemoedigd om een paper in te sturen uiterlijk op 25 November 2022 met het oog op de publicatie ervan in een verslagboek van de conferentie dat uitgegeven zal worden door Larcier/Intersentia. Gelieve te noteren dat de organisatoren van de conferentie zich het recht voorhouden om te bepalen welke papers uiteindelijk gepubliceerd worden in het verslagboek van de conferentie. Het geven van een presentatie tijdens de conferentie houdt evenwel geen verplichting in om een schriftelijke bijdrage te leveren.
Onderzoekers krijgen ook de kans om hun onderzoek te presenteren aan de hand van een wetenschappelijke poster. Tijdens de conferentie wordt een posterwedstrijd georganiseerd, waarbij de beste wetenschappelijke poster een prijs wint, namelijk een boekenbon ter waarde van 250 euro. Posters (1 pagina) en een korte biografie van de onderzoekers (maximum 150 woorden) dienen voor 2 september 2022 in de taal van de presentatie te worden verstuurd naar ACCA2022@vub.be.

Conférence des assistant.e.s (ACCA) – 21 octobre 2022
L’équipe ACCA de la Faculté de Droit et de Criminologie de la Vrije Universiteit Brussel (VUB) a le plaisir de vous inviter à la onzième édition de l’Assistentenconferentie/Conférence des assistant.e.s (ACCA 2022), qui aura pour thème « Shaping Utopia Through Law – Comment le droit (ne) répond (pas) aux enjeux de société ». Les enjeux auxquels la société est confrontée aujourd’hui sont nombreux et variés. Ils incluent notamment la santé, la démocratie, l’égalité des droits, la migration, la paix et la participation citoyenne au climat, le développement durable, la digitalisation et l’innovation. Ces enjeux suscitent une aspiration à une société idéale ou une « utopie », un concept qui a été mis en avant entre autres par Thomas More.
Avec son slogan “The world needs you”, la VUB encourage tout un chacun à contribuer à cette société idéale. Les juristes et les criminologues jouent sans aucun doute un rôle central à cet égard, ce qui a déjà suscité de nombreuses questions de recherche. Quelles réponses les sciences juridiques et criminologiques peuvent-elles apporter aux enjeux mentionnés ci-dessus ? Est-ce souhaitable d’apporter à ces questions une réponse juridique ? Présentation/Contribution écrite/Poster
Nous invitions tous les chercheurs, assistants et doctorants des Facultés de Droit et de Criminologie de Belgique à soumettre, selon leur spécialisation, un abstract entrant dans le cadre de ce sujet de recherche en vue de donner une présentation à la conférence. Les présentations, d’une durée de 15 minutes maximum, peuvent être données en néerlandais, en français ou en anglais.
Tous les intervenants sont en outre invités à soumettre un article au plus tard le 25 novembre 2022 en vue d’une publication dans le rapport de la conférence qui sera édité par Larcier/Intersentia. Veuillez noter que les organisateurs de la conférence se réservent le droit de décider quels articles seront finalement publiés dans le rapport de la conférence. Donner une présentation durant la conférence n’engage toutefois nullement à soumettre également une contribution écrite.
Les chercheurs auront par ailleurs l’opportunité de présenter leur recherche par le biais d’un poster scientifique. Une compétition de posters sera organisée durant la conférence et le gagnant remportera un prix, à savoir un chèque cadeau d'une valeur de 250 euros pour des livres. Les posters (1 page) accompagnés d’une courte biographie du chercheur (maximum 150 mots) doivent être envoyés pour le 2 septembre 2022 à ACCA2022@vub.be, dans la langue de la présentation.

Assistants’ Conference (ACCA) – 21 October 2022
The ACCA team of the Faculty of Law and Criminology of the Vrije Universiteit Brussel (VUB) would like to invite you to the eleventh edition of the Assistentenconferentie/Conférence des assistant.es (ACCA 2022). The theme of the conference will be “Shaping Utopia Through Law – How the law does (not) provide an answer to societal challenges”. There are many issues facing society now, ranging from health, democracy, equal rights, migration, peace and citizen participation to climate, sustainability, digitisation, and innovation. These challenges make us long for the idea of an ideal society, a “utopia”; an image that was put forward by, among others, Thomas More.
With its slogan “The world needs you” the VUB encourages everyone to contribute to an “ideal society”. Lawyers and criminologists undoubtedly play a central role therein, although this role raises various (research) questions. For example, what answers can legal studies and the criminological sciences provide to the aforementioned issues and challenges? Is it desirable to address these challenges through a legal solution? Presentation/Paper/Poster
We invited all researchers, assistants, and doctoral students of the Belgian law and criminology faculties to submit an abstract, based on their specialisation, that fits within this research theme with a view to giving a presentation at the conference. Presentations can be given in Dutch, French or English, and last up to 15 minutes.
In addition, all speakers are encouraged to submit a paper no later than 25 November 2022 for publication in a conference report to be published by Larcier/Intersentia. Please note that the conference organisers reserve the right to determine which papers will eventually be published in the conference report. However, giving a presentation during the conference does not imply any obligation to make a written contribution.
Researchers will also have the opportunity to present their research by means of a scientific poster. A poster competition will be organised during the conference. The best scientific poster will win a prize, in particular a book voucher of 250 euros. Posters (1 page) and a short biography of the researcher (maximum 150 words) should be sent to ACCA2022@vub.be before 2 September 2022 in the language of the presentation.
