De European Research Council (ERC) voorziet financiering voor de implementatie van baanbrekend onderzoek voor een periode van 5 (6) jaar. Het ERC programme voorziet een kenmerkend financieringsmechanisme gestoeld op wetenschappelijke excellentie voor alle wetenschappelijke disciplines (bottom-up call).
Momenteel lopen er aan de Vrije Universiteit Brussel verschillende ERC-projecten (overzicht binnenkort beschikbaar).

Financiering en Beurzen
Onderstaande types beurzen zijn beschikbaar:
- Starting Grants (1.5 mio euro voor 5 jaar, voor onderzoekers met 2-7 jaar ervaring als postdoc*)
- Consolidator Grants (2 mio euro voor 5 jaar, voor onderzoekers met 7-12 jaar ervaring als postdoc*)
- Advanced Grants (2.5 mio euro voor 5 jaar, voor senior onderzoekers)
- Synergy Grants (10 mio euro voor 6 jaar, voor 2-4 hoofdonderzoekers op eender welk moment in hun carrière)
- Proof of Concept (lump sum 150 k eur) voor ERC beurshouders, bedoeld om de kosten te dekken van activiteiten in het kader van het omzetten van onderzoeksoutput naar commercieel of sociaal waardevolle voorstellen.

Individuele steun en scouting tijdens de fase waarin het projectvoorstel wordt geschreven: doorlichting van het profiel van de kandidaat - training voor het schrijven van een ERC projectvoorstel - opmaak van het projectbudget - ondersteuning bij eventuele ethische vragen - evaluatie van het projectvoorstel in samenspraak met externe consulenten - voorbereiding op presentatie van het project en interviews.

- Een tenure track mandaat aangeboden door de VUB onderzoeksraad.
- Een breed aanbod aan kansen op gebied van loopbaanontwikkeling en communicatiemogelijkheden.
- Geschikte werkomstandigheden voor de implementatie van het project.

General facilities
The VUB has excellent services that are flexible, customised and well-organised. Computer facilities and strong (wireless) internet connections are available as well as access to technology platforms, research facilities, and the university library. The VUB International Relations & Mobility Office assists the incoming researcher before and after their arrival in Brussels with administrative matters such as visa permits, registration and health insurance.
The university houses 8 joint research infrastructures, autonomous units within the VUB that have highly qualified personnel and specialized equipment which is available to the research community at economic prices. From statistical-methodological support over microscopy and cellsorters to a cleanroom for microfluidics and much more - researchers can find it all in our core facilities.
